Fractional Numbers

In the binary number system,fractional numbers are formed in the same way as in decimal number system.For example,in decimal number system,

0.235=(2times10-1)+(3times10-2)+(5times10-3)

Similarly in  binary number system,

0.101=(1times2-1)+(0times2-2)+(1times2-3)

Hence,binary point serves the same purpose as decimal point. Some positional values in binary number system are given below:

Position 4 3    2    1    0   .     -1 -2 -3 -4
Position Value 24 23 22 21 20   2-1 2-2 2-3 2-4
Quantity Represented 16 8 4 2 1   1/2 1/4 1/8 1/16

Converting Binary Fractional Number to Decimal Equivalent:

A) Convert the integral part of binary to decimal equivalent

1.Multiply each digit separately from left side of radix point till the first digit by 20, 21, 22,… respectively.
